    People

    Workforce equity is not a box-ticking exercise. It is a long term process of creating an environment that both attracts a workforce that defines and expresses itself with limitless possibilities, and also retains them. It’s about building infrastructure which allows individuals to flourish and creating visible pathways to success. Our ongoing efforts include a commitment to increasing the racial representation among US managers, and delivering inclusive performance management, progression and hiring processes.

    Our internship program was a notable success in 2022, with our largest-ever intake. The program, which welcomed 40 candidates last year, offers a unique learning opportunity for students in the media industry and related fields over ten weeks. Interns can assist with a range of projects that complement their career interests, gain industry relevance and exposure to a media company, and attend workshops, social and networking events.

    Community Groups

    The way we work has changed drastically over the last few years, and while we embrace a hybrid working culture at VICE Media Group, we know that connection with our colleagues is critical to our enjoyment, Bwin online live casinocreativity and quality of output. 

    Our Community Groups work to do just that, creating bonds between identity-connected individuals and building belonging across the globe, including Wellbeing, LGBTQ+ and POC Groups. Our valued teams work on a range of programs and initiatives – both virtual and IRL – that seek to foster connection and collaboration for all staff.

    All of our employees are unique, culture-defining humans, so the benefits we offer have long reflected the range of individuality we celebrate at VICE Media Group. We are continually reviewing, updating and communicating our benefits and wellness programs. We offer inclusive Family Leave benefits and have a round-the-clock Employee Assistance Program for the needs of both our teams and their families, which includes in-person or video counselling sessions.

    Culture

    Our Culture pillar is based on creating a shared knowledge and understanding of inclusive behaviors and visibly demonstrates a commitment to championing belonging and equity. We aim to get all our teams on the same page when it comes to understanding the terminology and application of inclusion, equity and belonging practices, allowing them to bring this into their everyday lives both in the workplace – virtual or in person – and beyond. We aim to give every employee the tools and support to maintain the equitable workplaces we all deserve.

    DEI Dashboard

    The DEI Dashboard was created in 2020 as a single source of truth for teams across VICE Media Group that outlines our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy, and all the solutions and actions we are taking.

    We created this dashboard with the intention of promoting transparency, definitely, but also collaboration and a sense of investment. Initiatives can be tracked, with status, completion date and stakeholders clear to see. We want to foster a sense of involvement for leaders, managers and team members at every level of our business.

    Training

    We understand that learning is an important part in ensuring the values, behaviors and understanding that underpin an equitable and inclusive workplace are embedded throughout the workforce – from senior leadership to junior team members. 

    In 2022, we continued to support a culture of learning, psychological safety, and collaboration. Our curated collection of DEI resources is in our internal learning platform. All employees across the globe can log in to take the latest DEI training, explore topics of interest, and share feedback on what they would like to learn. Beyond topics such as unconscious bias, building an inclusive culture, and personal identity development, we offered bespoke learnings for teams.

    At VICE Media Group, we believe applying a systemic, transparent and consistent approach to equity and inclusion is vital. From building a more inclusive approach towards capturing, analyzing and sharing the demographic data you see in the report, to creating every day policy and processes that allow us to address root causes and align on our core values, the Systems pillar is a necessary component of our DEI work.

    Pay Equity

    We are committed to consistent and equitable compensation at VICE Media Group. Our internal Compensation Team routinely conducts reviews to ensure compensation and promotions are equitable for every person across the globe. Our managers are held accountable for ensuring equitable pay across their teams. Our ongoing pay philosophy emphasizes personal performance and contribution to larger company goals, which in turn ladders up to a strong and consistent approach to overall equity at VICE Media Group.

    In 2022, we launched a Beautiful Basics initiative to clarify expectations for managers and leaders about how we work together and raise and solve problems with a lens on operational efficiency, equity, and inclusion. Our teams have leveraged this framework to inform our return to office protocols and administrative  reminders that help reduce operational friction across teams, and enhance a sense of belonging and engagement.

We have a pedigree in storytelling across news, digital, commercials, on the big screen and TVs around the globe, going to the front lines of culture and representing alternative voices.

    Adidas Running While...

    Adidas, Religion of Sports, and VICE came together to change the conversation in sports by promoting equality and highlighting athletes around the world whose shared identity shapes their training experiences. It sparked a movement that celebrated our differences, broke down barriers, and created a platform to elevate athletes’ voices.  

    The docuseries serves as powerful testimony to the persistent challenges facing a  new generation of BIPOC, Female, and LGBTQ  everyday athletes. Each episode features  athletes that have endured racial, religious, or gender barriers blocking their ability to  participate in a given sport or activity. The teams, organizations, and  athletes featured may train in different countries, but they are united by a shared experience and identity.

    VICE World News

    VICE World News is committed to telling stories from communities and groups that feel marginalised, ignored or forgotten by other media.

    Stories include the huge rise in anti-LGTBQ hate crimes reporting in the UK, the LGTBQ venues accused of extreme racism and the African nationals who were assaulted on fleeing the Ukraine.

     

    R29: Unbothered's Birth Rights

    Unbothered’s Birth Rights acknowledges inspiring mothers and showcases the beautiful diversity and depth of Black parenthood. As Black women continue to reconsider what motherhood looks like, R29’s package of stories spotlighted Black maternity, reproductive health, and explored cultural conversations on re-parenting ourselves and the next generation. The package was made up of on-site articles and off platform video content, the top story; ‘I’m Black, Pregnant & Refusing To Give Birth In A Hospital For My Safety’ performed three times higher than our usual article benchmark and we also had a huge response from our audience.

    Logitech: Defy Logic

    Virtue was engaged by Logitech to produce a campaign as part of the tech brand’s ‘Defy Logic’ campaign, which encourages us all to challenge the status quo.

    The 90 second spot, devised and produced by our creative agency Virtue, celebrated and honoured creatives and visionaries that have the courage to challenge industry norms. The ad, which previewed Lizzo’s hit single ‘Previous’ also featured Kheris Rogers, Bretman Rock and Elsa Majimbo.

    Gangs of London

    Pulse Films’ acclaimed returning drama Gangs of London is an example of how diversity and inclusion was embedded throughout the production process. From the bespoke DE&I training sessions that took place for heads of department and talent, to the introduction of a placement directors scheme which provided two aspiring directors from underrepresented groups to work throughout the production and to direct some second unit material. In addition, they included support from a on set Well-being Facilitator and the team were able to partner with Screenskills on their Make A Move initiative to step up three team members, two from underrepresented groups.

    Black+

    Black+ is an on-going program in partnership with the National Urban League through which VICE Media Group provides black-owned brands pro-bono media and creative services. Through an application process on a custom portal, hundreds of black business owners across all industries had the opportunity to apply to this initiative. Once selected we worked with the black owned brands in a consultative capacity, offering strategic marketing and advertising solutions based on their business needs.
